Ain't nuthin' but a picsa thing!
Since my son Sebastian enrolled at High Tech High school in Point Loma I made a connection with the academic department in charge of coordinating internships for the students in 11th grade (juniors). Last month my friend and former chef, Chad Kilgore reached out to me asking me if I would take a student for a kitchen internship. After I called him to verify someone really wanted to do an internship in the kitchen he confirmed that there was a student who is a junior at HTH who has aspirations of becoming a chef.
To make the story short, we are hosting C.R. as an intern at De Nada Kitchen & Market and this is his last week with us. The students doing their internship are to work on a project coordinated by the mentoree, in this case, me chef Oz. So, I gave C.R. the project of coming up with a picsa that we would sell during the last week of this internship and then donate 10% of the sales of the picsa (pizza) to a local non-for-profit. C.R has been learning other kitchen things, such as learning how to follow recipes, some basic food prep, following systems, and getting a feeling for working in a small, family-owned restaurant.
So, I want to invite you to support C.R.'s project and order this awesome new picsa, inspired by a California Burrito. C.R. wanted to come up with an idea representative of San Diego, which I thought was genius! Picsa will be available between Tuesday and Saturday
